word 2 of 5 – seashore inspiration
In a recent post, I mentioned Vicky Dar’s recipe for an interior based on five descriptive ingredients. It’s great because each person selects their own ingredients – the five words that most closely describe the feeling you want to achieve in your space.
One of my five is romance. While romance is not a prominent theme in our home, it’s something I’m striving to achieve.
The second, and most promient descriptor in our home is seashore. For us, seashore not only defines a range of prevalent colors (shades of blue, white and brown) but also defines a relaxed, uncomplicated feeling. The way you feel when you’re at the beach.
Here’s an example–a candelabra I made from a large driftwood branch resting on the fireplace mantle.
Or the seashell fragments scattered across the dining table as a simple adornment at our dinner party last weekend.
Or the antique shed door we converted to a coffee table for the bedroom (I clearly have an addiction to these driftwood candelabras..!).
Or tidbits from our seashell collection literally throughout the house.
Subtle reminders of the seashore all around, loosely woven into the fabric of home.
And just to round out the seashore inspiration, a quick look at some fantabulous room imagery from houzz.
.
What are a few of your five words?

Diane, those driftwood candelabras are soooooooo awesome!
In fact, your whole home is awesome. The thing I most love about your home is the feeling I always get when I see photos. Your home is comfortable, simple, clean, airy, and yes…even romantic! I love all those little ‘accents’ you place around a room that never dominate, but are rather subliminal. Your home has a very warm feeling to it.
Your taste in style is very similar to my own. I don’t like clutter. I like a feeling of openness.
Great post, my friend!
Much X to you and Cristybella!
When we go to the beach we never leave without collecting at least one stone with a hole in. I have them all over the house, not in the nice way you have yours but they are a reminder of a lovely time spent. Unfortunately my house is far too cluttered to be relaxing in the way i would really like and i don’t have the space to have lots of storage to put the clutter away. It is something i am always working on in a crafty way.
I don’t know…I have to figure out what my five words are! Untraditionally traditional. Those are two of them.
interesting how many of us have been thinking of the sea and studying driftwood this week. i just blogged about beginning a series of sea dreams signs, based on driftwood and sea mist, and here is your candelabra and scattering of seashells. lovely.
I love your seaside inspirational images. Especially the drift wood candle holder. Thanks for sharing, liz
I love those candleholders!
I haven’t ever used the 5 words system for decor, but if I did, I think “happy, comfortable, and authentic” would be three of them. I do have lots of shells and coral scattered around, though.
I love your driftwood candelabra!! It captures both so perfectly, seashore & romance. I have lots of candles in my house and use them almost every night.
