joining Roomspiration [Entryways at Abode Love]

The first time Cristybella and I walked into this house and moved through the vast open entryway towards the living room, we knew we were going to buy this home.  The spaciousness is both calming and inviting.  I remember whispering to her after about 20 seconds:  let’s buy this house.

Even though a lot of drama ensued between that moment and closing, the ending to the story was indeed a happy one.

Anyway, as you walk in the front door, the dining room is just to the right

and the parlor just to the left.

The high ceilings lend such a formality to the space, that we decided to humbly adorn the walls with a mixture of paintings, drawings, artifacts, prints and homemade artfulness.  No fuss, but all definitely things we love.

The little antique commode is an item I purchased for a song many years ago at auction.  The basic closet door mirror, hanging above it, just got a silvery finish face lift last weekend.

And we never miss an opportunity to integrate our massive collection of seashells (yes, we hoard) in any room.  Here they are in the crystal bowl above, and on the tiny windchime hanging over the mirror.

Looking back from the living room towards the front door is just as serene.

We think the mixture of artwork and the restrained use of the space, in terms of furnishings, maintains that peaceful and welcoming feeling.  It is the feeling we want to communicate to visitors when they walk inside.

Thank you for joining me on this portion of the tour and please look for more entryway inspiration at Abode Love.  Join me on Wednesday, as I ride along with the Roomspiration party bloggers for a look at the living room and parlor.

I appreciate your company🙂

Diane, This is just gorgeous. You and Christy have done an amazing job with this beautiful home. It appears that our homes our from the same era and it is fascinating to me to see how we each approach our homes. I love your unadorned floors. It is just such a clean pure look. Unfortunately, I live in the midwest and we have snow and salt to contend with but you have me thinking, even though I just purchased my foyer rugs and I am mad about them, that maybe next summer I will remove them and go with that unadorned, dialed back look that you have so successfully achieved.
Love it all. I will have to check out that party.

You know what I love? That so many of the things on your walls are things you made. It’s a great entryway~grand and personal at the same time.

Diane, I am soooooooo happy things worked out, and that you and Cristy bought this house.

As I’ve shared in many of my comments over the past year….I LOVE YOUR CASA!

“in terms of furnishings, maintains that peaceful and welcoming feeling. It is the feeling we want to communicate to visitors when they walk inside.”

And you most certainly did! Even from just looking at it through photos, you can feel that peaceful and welcoming feeling. It sets the tone for the remainder of the house.

Your sense of style is superb! Airy, open, clean, and inviting!

    You GO, girls!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

X to you and Miss Cristybella!

    Diane,

Love it! Not sure if it is new construction, or old – but either way it has character! The architectural details are fantastic! Love the floors and all the details they boast! I also noticed artwork that exudes your creative presence – am I right? Great job!
