green-thumb-art

June 28, 2011

I’ve not yet begun my long anticipated paper slice collage project, but have a feeling it will rise to the top of the list soon.  Quite a while back I made a little prototype and stashed it away.  Since then, with interior rearrangements, a number of these forgotten artful items are finding their way into the main purview of our living space.

This one is created with a combination of disposable (aka junk mail) paper, repurposed paper (old road maps) and new paper (the recolored-print images of the one dollar bill).

One of the things I really like about it is the fact that it resides in a 100% repurposed custom frame.  The frame originally held a photograph snapped by an artist whose oil pastels I admire greatly.  I inherited this photograph and the subject matter does not resonate with me strongly.  So I merely swapped out the image for the paper slice collage.

With a holiday weekend approaching, there is a possibility of a slice of time (pun intended) during which I might begin the larger scale version of my paper slice collage (the inspiration started with the mini paper slice creations last Christmas).  Artful repurposing options are all around us.  Go green!

And, as always, thank you for reading.  Your company here gives me such joy 🙂

Just discovered your blog and I’m loving all of your projects. I am afraid I am going to start saving much more paper than I already divert from the recycling bin. It’s nice to see so many great project ideas for things I already have in my home and don’t have to go out and buy.

A very beautiful way to repurpose junk mail! As an artist myself I love seeing what other fellow artists are creating- It inspires me! I’d love it if you shared this with WorkShop Wednesday. It would make a great addition to the party!

So glad I found you out here in blog land. I love this idea and think I could do my own variations of it for this fall’s Traveling Door sale. It isn’t even 10 AM. And I am feeling uber inspired 🙂
