fingerprints of love ~ loveprints
Scenes from a typical day in this little spot on the map…..
Me (walking into the kitchen & seeing Cristy standing near the toaster): yum, that toast smells wonderful
Cristy: that’s because it’s a pop tart
Me: makes sense.
That’s a love print. A funny loving moment etched into my memory. Some love prints are tangible objects that resemble our feelings.
Our first anniversary is fast approaching. Two, in fact. Our wedding took place precisely 2 years and 1 day after the day that we met. So we have an official anniversary in addition to our own special recognition of that very first date. Our own love day.
In the spirit of giving from the heart (and also because I really suck at selecting gifts), I decided to make something for Cristy for our love day. A love print. I thought about it for a long long time (found some wonderful inspiration here) and ultimately decided on an art project, combining some of our favorite things: photography, mosaic, collage paper stripes and the seashore. In this case, the photographs act as mosaic tiles.
It’s a collage of hearts on canvas. Many of the hearts are found natural objects that now reside in our home. A few other hearts are manufactured by arranging seaglass, buttons or beads into the shape of a heart. I photographed them all.
I started assembling the collage by layering torn paper on the canvas with mod podge, then applying watercolor very lightly. The paint absorbed into the creases and torn areas. Next (channeling Pollock) I added dots and splatters.
Finally, I cut my images into 3×4 tiles, adhered them to the canvas and added a paper ruffled border. It’s just brown parcel-mailing paper cut with scissors and embellished with colored pen.
Finished it with our own personal logo at the bottom.
I’m hopeful that my sweet Cristybella and I will collaborate on another project like this, exhibiting even more artistic creativity.

Hi Diane!
Yeah, I know I’m not supposed to be officially blogging again until tomorrow, but when I read this post on my reader earlier, I HAD to stop by and say how much I LOVE this love print!!!
OMG….it’s so sweet! And I LOVE how you made the collage around the hearts. BRILLIANT, my friend. Simply BRILLIANT!
And I can’t believe you’re coming up to your anniversary already?!? It’s seems like only yesterday that you got married. I remember reading it on your post when you were at Blogger.
Anwyay…I’ve missed ya this past week, and look forward to catching up with you this week.
Much X to you and Cristybella!
How sweet. It’s a sweet gift and pretty too.

Thank you Anne – you are so amazingly creative, I’m sure you know exactly how much fun it was to assemble this piece. i told the guy in the art supply store as i was buying the canvas: i really don’t know anything about art, but that doesn’t stop me 🙂
Saw you on MMM. So pretty & creative. Would love to have you link this up to my {wow me} wednesday link up party going on over on my blog right now. The most viewed link will win a set of fancy rectangle chalkboard labels. This week I’m co-hosting with Reasons to Skip the Housework…so links will show up on both blogs! How fun!

Hi! I stumbled upon your pretty blog while searching for other crafty diy’ers and I’m so glad I did! This project is sooooo beautiful and inspiring to me – my first love is paper and I’m starting to get the photography bug now so this really hit a chord. Just lovely. Also, the driftwood garland is adorable!
