framed brooches

April 12, 2011

More with the jewelry repurposing.  But seriously, I don’t believe I’m the only person that has more brooches than I wear.  I love them, but generally prefer to wear necklaces.

Combine the abundance of brooches with the fact that I have more photo frames than I use.  Particularly these small, inexpensive wallet-sized photo frames.  They’re the perfect size for a little piece of jewelry.   I pinned the brooch to a double layer of white cotton and folded the fabric around the photo frame glass, then replaced the backing to hold it together firmly.

The synthetic red leaves are from the craft store.  My sister-in-law enclosed them with a gift last year, and I decided to layer them over the white cotton.

After adding these to the bedroom, I added a long stripe of sparkly framed brooches in the dining room too.

For a few more ideas on framing jewelry, check out Cheap Chic Home, Brave Girls Club, and Hodge Podge.

Here’s a source for small sized picture frames.  And another, for good measure.

Thank you for reading and repurposing!

This is a great idea! I passed on so much of my grandma’s jewelry simply because I knew I’d never wear it. I could have done something like this!

My flower starts are getting BIG! If it doesn’t warm up soon, I’ll have to put them in bigger pots before I can even plant them outside. I think I started them too soon.

Okay you and me BOTH! Lots of frames (I’m a hopeless collector!) and lots of brooches I’ve collected and don’t wear! Thanks for a great idea!

That’s such a smart way to display them! I’m guessing most people just store them in a jewelry box, but this way you can share them with everyone. Were any of these finds from Round Top/Warrenton?

Great idea framing them. Better than having them not seen. Thanks for joining WUW.
