clock re-do

April 6, 2011

More than a year ago, I purchased a clock via Craigslist.  I don’t know what I was thinking at the time, because this clock purchased new, is not really expensive.

Stock photo image.

Anyway, I liked it initially, but then, not so much.  We put it aside and I concentrated on other projects.

I’ve been reading about the different kinds of painting finish techniques that so many other bloggers have used to bring interest to furniture and other objects that were previously not so interesting.

So on Saturday, I picked up a little jar of oops paint in a shade of black at Lowes.  Painted the clock frame then sanded it.

Then applied a dark shade of Minwax stain.

My intent was to practice this paint finish technique to see how it goes.  My real objective is to refinish a much larger piece of furniture.  One that is currently in use.  Don’t really want to practice on that.

I think the results of the little test subject are OK.  Here’s the clock back together again.

Hanging in the dining room, the only room in the house (except the laundry room) without a clock.  Now that oversight is remedied.

Thank you so much for reading 🙂

The clock re-do looks FAB, Diane!

I REALLY like the finish because it has that ‘distressed’ look, which I adore!

    Two thumbs up, my friend!

Hope you had a wonderful Wednesday!

    X to you and C!

It looks like a different clock with the new finish! It looks really pretty with your wrought iron chandelier and wall sconce.

Thanks for your kind comment about my chandelier on my blog 🙂

I like it! I think the black paint made it look a lot more high end.

I think this looks fantastic! Great job! Just keep jumping in with both feet… what’s the worst that could happen? You just start over again. BTW- some of my best results have stemmed from a “mistake” that I “fixed”.

Love that finish Diane, a big improvement on the plain timber…and it really pops on the white wall. I’ve been thinking about painting an old bookshelf that we brought with us from Australia. It’s in a baltic stain and had been under the house for years. I thought it might come in handy in a rental, giving me an option for some styling and decorating on it’s shelves. My thoughts were to paint the outside black and the inside a warm white, distress it a little bit etc. You’ve spurred me on…it might be my project next week during the school hols. Robx

    Hi lovely,

You’ve done a great job with the clock. It’s gone from blah to ba-ding!!
I just tried to email you but I can’t find an email address for you, so I hope you don’t mind me posting the email as a comment….

    Hi Diane,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such an awesome comment – well, two comments!! It’s been LOVELY to get to know you better.

Your job sounds just up my street. It’s such an unusual mix to enjoy maths AND creativity….but that’s what I like too. In fact, one pf the reasons that I enjoy blogging is the IT side which appeals to the maths part of me.

I’m exactly the same with violence too. I used to try and just get used to watching horror movies…but when I was pregnant with one of my children, I had really bad nightmares. I decided to stop watching anything with violence in…and, surprise, surprise, the nightmares vanished. It was such a dramatic change that I decided to continue my violence-ban. And I’m so pleased I did. My mind feels much cleaner somehow.

I loved your ideas for blog posts too.

All in all, BRILLIANT comments. Thank you.

    Sarahxxx

Thanks for the comment on my crazy colorful candlestick. I came over to see your bowl of shelves on yours but found this fun clock instead. Well done. Like the chippy feel you added to your finish.
