things I love – the silver edition
There is something about the feeling of sterling silverware in your hand. The heft, cool soft metal, its deep luminance. Even a pudding cup tastes better if you’re eating it with a sterling spoon.
But why stop with silverware? Bloggers remind me all the time that there are lots of opportunities to incorporate the lovely timeless glow of silver into our homes.
As a counterpoint to her silver champagne urn, Courtney at French Country Cottage sends it over-the-top feminine with a bouquet of pink Camellias from her garden.

The satiny rich sheen of a silver leaf finish over wooden furniture is a true favorite. Oppulence. The example below, from Jenny at Little Green Notebook is actually aluminum leaf rather than silver. Jenny selected aluminum for this project to achieve a brighter, more reflective shine.

I gather, from reading just a tiny bit about using metal leaf, that it is preferable to apply it to a smooth surface, like glass or the even rounded surface of that bombe chest above.
But not to worry, silvering loveliness can still transform carved ornate pieces (thanks to metallic paint) into regal beauties.

Ahh. Be still my heart.
One of each, please.
Thank you for reading, I so enjoy your company.
Silver and white look amazing together. Something about the contrast in textures is very appealing.
Diane, you ALWAYS share the most wonderful talent from your fellow bloggers!
These are spectacular images!
I too love silver. For many years I was all about gold, however after I REALLY started noticing the beauty of silver, I was hooked.
Silver ROCKS!
Happy Monday, my friend!
X to you and C!
Those are all such pretty examples. But that last picture! DROOL!
I love the things you picked out. That silver chest of drawers is SOOOOOO gorgeous. I’ll have one of each too!

I love silver, especially old silver. I used to collect old cutlery from car boots. Sadly, I never seem to have the time to go any more but, I still have little bits of history kicking around. Lovely photos 😀
I had to look up that term ‘car boot’ because I had no idea what it means. But I gather that it is perhaps a cross between an antique store and a rummage sale. I have a miniscule collection of sterling, I mostly love serving spoons. Well, OK I love it all. Who am I kidding?
