things I love – the lighting edition + nuts

February 24, 2011

A couple of kitchen drawers are full of hardware and tools we use on a regular basis and inside one of them is a little jar of assorted fastening hardware.  This jar is a favorite go-to resource for me, and last weekend, as I poured the contents into my palm, a brass hex nut caught my attention.

I marveled at the geometry and pleasing color.  I started wondering what sort of creation I might make to celebrate the artfulness of that common object?

Then, just a few days later, I read sarah.wandering and saw this ingenious bracelet.

oh my.  that’s what I’m talking about.  (source credits to Giles & Brother jewelers and Honestly…WTF)

Coincidentally, I fell head over heels with another DIY project that features string.  This fabulous lampshade re-do from Northern Cottage.

I have an old lamp that sadly needs a replacement shade and I am ashamed to admit that I threw the old dusty one into the trash.  (hanging head)  I know, what was I thinking?  This would have been a perfect solution!

However, while we’re on the subject of lamps, I have to admit that I have a crush on capiz shell fixtures, the ones dripping with glossy white or bronze shells.  They look fresh and breezy soft.  Then I saw this faux capiz shell DIY lamp project at Crafty Nest.

This is simple and pretty and just a little bit fussy.  But in a good way!

And as an added bonus, I spotted a brilliant idea to dress up twinkle lights in eco friendly style via esprit cabane magazine

They just make me smile.  All these ideas are brilliant!

Thank you for reading, I appreciate it so much!

“have an old lamp that sadly needs a replacement shade and I am ashamed to admit that I threw the old dusty one into the trash.”

And as you may remember, I too just threw out an old lamp while I was spring cleaning. Now I can kill myself.

Hey, I also just clicked over to Honestly…WFT and just about died over the great jewelry I saw.

    Thanks for sharing, my friend!
